We are able to find small nuggets and lots of fine gold dust with a sluice but you can even use just a simple gold pan for finding real gold on your next trip or weekend. There are great locations around Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Buena Vista, Aspen, and Fort Collins that you can find great gold on state owned land.
Checking out my new claim in the town of Hope. This claim has both the Fraser river and the Coquihalla River running trough it. Nice wide open gravel bars with fine gold throughout. The claim boarders the local recreational panning reserve but still has ample land for prospecting and good area for running a high banker.
I start out prospecting for placer jade but get thwarted by angry flying red ant hoards. I discover some aventurine quartz (I think) along the way and I go on the hunt for an old black jade mine I found on Google Earth. Jade prospecting in Wyoming. I filmed in 60fps to reduce camera jumpiness but I can't figure out how to get it to render correctly yet, so I apologize in advance for the jitter and my crappy filming, working on it.

How to pin point the locations & make notes. Then when you are ready for a trip you can write down the GPS. coordinates of the location. Program them into a hand held gps or a vehicle gps, to get you near the chosen area. This technique will work anywhere there is placer gold. Best if you know where gold was originally found.
